Choice concerts: Freedom of choice

In this corner (a/k/a the top show in Palm Beach County)…

Marc Broussard

Saturday night at City Limits in Delray, it’s Marc Broussard and Josh Hoge for a tremendous concert with two strong voices in music.

Broussard came to my attention after Hurricane Katrina when his song “Home” hit VH1’s airwaves. What was a great, soulful song to begin with gained added meaning as the Louisiana native spoke for his fellow delta denisens.

Hoge was a hit-writing songsmith from Tennessee who’s just released a well-received first album, Everything She Was.

And in this corner (a/k/a the best in South Florida outside PBC):

Saturday night at Revolution in Fort Lauderdale, it’s Of Montreal and The Fiery Furnaces for a mind-bending good time.

Of Montreal
I began listening to Of Montreal a few years ago when I found their very first album, Cherry Peel, at a CD Warehouse. I enjoyed Kevin Barnes’ way with a phrase and his ability to keep things interesting song after song.

These days, Barnes has found other ways to keep things interesting, mostly with his stage show, while Of Montreal’s sound has changed to a mix of Bowie and psychedelia.
