Borne from the same scene that spawned Bright Eyes, Cursive and Tilly and the Wall, The Faint have been doing a blue-steel electronic rock thing since they began back in the late 1990s.
(In fact, before they were The Faint, they were Norman Bailer, and Bright Eyes’ Conor Oberst was in the band.)
Have The Faint made their “Magnum” with their new album, Fasciinatiion? Check them out on Saturday at Fort Lauderdale’s Culture Room to find out. (Personally, I would think so, but then I’ve liked them since they did a song called “Take Me To The Hospital”, which I would request at Respectable Street on quite a few Saturday dance nights. Yes, I did dance.)
Please to enjoy: “The Geeks Were Right”
Palm Beach choice show: I hear Spiritual Rez is pretty cool at Delray’s City Limits on Friday, but don’t miss Percy Sledge at the Meyer in downtown West Palm for a free show on Sunday. “When A Man Loves A Woman”? That’s a pure classic!
Is money no object? Head to the Chicago Theatre in the Windy City for a summit of some great talent: guitarists Buddy Guy, Eric Johnson, Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Eric Gales, Doyle Bramhall II and Los Lobos’ David Hidalgo and Cesar Rojas for Experience Hendrix, celebrating the legend of Jimi.
