Let’s say, for the sake of argument, you live where I do — Palm Beach County, Florida. And let’s say musical acts you like play somewhat close by, but not too close by. Like Miami Beach, which is where Common and N*E*R*D are performing on Friday at the Fillmore.
But as much as you enjoy Common’s work — especially on “Be” — and find yourself occasionally humming “Rock Star” by the group that’s basically The Neptunes (or Pharrell and Chad, if you prefer), you know that spending $$$ on tickets and another $$$ on gas and another $$$ on dinner doesn’t jibe with other wishes, like a house or maybe a new computer.
We also have some great shows up here — maybe you can check out Noble Rocket and Stonefox at Delray’s City Limits or Spred the Dub at The Lounge.
I suppose what I’m saying here is picking one show might not be so good for those of us who are seeking the frugal choice. So from here on out, I’ll pick one show where “Money is no object”, one in South Florida and one here in good ol’ PBC.
For example… if money’s no object… I’m seeing Beck in New York at the United Palace. He’s got three shows, Oct. 8-10.
In South Florida, Common and N*E*R*D, Friday.
And here in PBC, let’s go with Noble Rocket/Stonefox, also on Friday.
Also appearing: Kind of a weird combo at the Fillmore on Wednesday, Estelle, Gym Class Heroes and The Roots (come for the American Boy, stay for the ?uestlove). … Danzig/Dimmu Borgir on Thursday at the Fillmore, provided you have earplugs and are stout of heart (otherwise, Glenn may rip it out of your chest and feed it to Dimmu Borgir) … Used to really love Phantom Planet, still like ’em, they’re at Revolution with The Rocket Summer on Friday … The first lady of modern R&B, Mary J. Blige, plays the BankAtlantic Center on Saturday.
