Choice concerts: Simply the best
Sometimes you don’t just go to a concert to rock out. Sometimes you go to pay tribute.
Tina Turner has been putting out some of the very best music since 1960. She endured one of the worst relationships in rock history. She had one of the great comebacks in rock history. She ran Thunderdome!
“BRYAN ADAMS!”
(That’s from Live Aid.)
There’s two chances to see Tina this weekend — Thursday at Miami’s AmericanAirlines Arena and Sunday at Sunrise’s BankAtlantic Center. And it’s worth it — Tina’s show is still among the very best you can see.
Best show in PBC: Lots of fun around Halloween, including shows at Respectable Street (Dark Romantics on Thursday; Information Society on Friday), but for me the big show might be the Nerdcore extravaganza featuring Cap’n Dan & The Scurvy Crew, a band which appeared in Blender in the only Nerdcore spread I’ve ever seen.
So far.
Money-no-object show: I know they’ll be here soon enough (Dec. 20), but the first AC/DC tour in years opens tonight in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. And hey, I’m betting every Angus fan from New England to Ohio will be there.
Beyonce… WTF??
Cher introduces Beyonce and… Miss Thang starts talking about all of these other women, and I think she’s lipsynching… and it makes NO SENSE.
But Tina Turner shows up. Thank GOD.
And while we loved the What’s Love and the Better Be Good… (you couldn’t get Cy Curnin for that?) … Beyonce, ya almost ran Tina down during Proud Mary!!!

New Frontiers is where the edge of the envelope meets the corners of the mind. It’s about those who try harder to make the world just a little more interesting. It’s also the name of a Donald Fagen song, on the album The Nightfly.
Stuff I'm interested in. Stuff I enjoy. Stuff that makes me happy. The stuff that makes life good.
