Trends: Does anyone really know what time it is?

Not surprisingly, several of today’s hottest search topics on Google are about the time change, as we in the US (except for Indiana) go into Daylight Savings Time.

I’m not going to go into how the idea of DST is antiquated, that the reason it was invented was to help farmers, that farmers can adapt and that it’s outlived its usefulness.

I will say that for many people — ESPECIALLY Americans — time can be a very confusing prospect. Here’s a video by comic Hugh Fink about how many people, including his dad, don’t understand time zones:

Trends: Clara, the depression and pasta with peas

Every so often, I like to look at Google Trends to see what’s the hottest search available. Many times it isn’t surprising, sometimes, however it’s totally fascinating.

Today for example, a lot of people are looking up Clara Cannucciari, a 93-year-old grandmother.

Why?

Because she has a YouTube show called “Depression Cooking with Clara”:

Not only are they sensible meals, they come with a message that’s really important right now: You have to make do with what you have.

(A suggestion: her site‘s a little on the slow side, so unless you have a lot of patience, just go to YouTube and look her up.)
