Trends: Does anyone really know what time it is?

Not surprisingly, several of today’s hottest search topics on Google are about the time change, as we in the US (except for Indiana) go into Daylight Savings Time.

I’m not going to go into how the idea of DST is antiquated, that the reason it was invented was to help farmers, that farmers can adapt and that it’s outlived its usefulness.

I will say that for many people — ESPECIALLY Americans — time can be a very confusing prospect. Here’s a video by comic Hugh Fink about how many people, including his dad, don’t understand time zones:

The last days of Circuit City

Was I a huge fan of Circuit City? Not in a long time — they had pretty good prices on PC games back when I had one, but that really was the last time I was shopping at the store on a regular basis.

Still, it’s a sad commentary on the times when a store goes into liquidation. We saw the same thing when both Linens N Things and CompUSA bought the farm here in South Florida. (Although a new CompUSA store opened soon after, which seemed bizarre to me.)

A Technologizer writer went into a San Fran Bay Area Circuit City to document its demise, and it’s something worth seeing.
